About Maritime Event
Centre (Maritime forsøgscenter a.m.b.a.)
The Maritime Event Centre is a self financed, cultural undertaking whose primary source of revenue is passenger traffic in viking ships and traditional Nordic wooden boats. Outside the boating season (May 1st through September 30th) we have additional revenues by boat construction and other marine craftsmanship as well as by more general craftsmanship activities. The Centre is located at Lejre Vig in Roskilde Fjord. Here we share buildings and boating area with Lyndby Dinghy Club. We now have ten viking ships and Traditional Nordic boats. Our goal is to keep alive the traditions and the original craftsmanship and skills that go into building and operating these vessels and to pass on the historical and maritime culture of Roskilde Fjord. The Centre is organized as a cooperative with limited liability (amba). The exact number of members varies over time, but has always been between 20 and 30 people. The undertaking is headed by a general unpaid board of directors, elected from among members at an annual General Assembly. Daily operations are managed by its founder and anchor man, Tonny Andersen. The Maritime Event Centre was founded in 1995 as one of the - at the time - so popular employment projects. At the centre, unemployed from the now closed down municipality of Bramsnæs would learn to build and sail the viking ships. When the municipality closed the project, a group of interested parties went together to create an independent company - and since then we have been on our own. Current Board composition: |
